Suffolk Public Schools will provide bus transport to the arts center from the child’s school upon request, and parents are urged to contact their child’s school once they have confirmed enrollment of their child at the Academy of Arts.

Parents are responsible for picking up their children from the arts center before 5 p.m. each day from the Academy of the Arts. The Cultural Arts Center is located at 110 W. Finney Ave. in Suffolk town center.

Superintendent Dr John B. Gordon III said at the Oct. 14 board meeting that the early layoff on Wednesday would allow time for planning and professional development for teachers and faculty, and would help to alleviate burnout problems.

AlphaBest will also provide after-school care on early departure Wednesdays. Families wishing to do so will have to register for these days separately at $ 30 per day, with a $ 20 discount applied to families already registered for the afternoon program.

When accessing the AlphaBest website, there will be three options: after school care on early exit days, before and / or after school care, food for the school year and a 10-visit pass for before and / or after school care with families providing at least 24 hours notice for staffing purposes (registration link: Anyone with questions can call 866-300-7750.

He said that in addition to the Academy of the Arts, the division is looking to partner with the Boys and Girls Club and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department to provide options for families on early layoff Wednesdays. Discount coupons would potentially be available for AlphaBest.
