Athens Cultural Center receives grant | Local Ads

ATHENS – The Masterwork Music and Art Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to excellence in the arts and linked to the Tri-State region, was pleased to provide a grant in the amount of $ 3,673 to the Athens Cultural Center (ACC), located in the heart of Athens, New York. This unrestricted grant will benefit CLA’s public arts and cultural programming.

The funds were raised via a fall garden party hosted by Masterworks Executive Director Todd Whitley, a resident of Greene County, and his partner, Gary O. Holder. “We were lucky with good weather for the fundraiser, and about 40 people attended. There were members of our board and people from the Hudson Valley who are new to Masterwork and its mission to support the arts.

Guests enjoyed the lush Whitley-Holder garden in its fall peak, as well as snacks and drinks. Donations collected during and after the event totaled $ 3,673. “We didn’t know how the event would work,” Whitley said. “But the result exceeded my expectations and helped spread awareness of Masterwork and ACC. “

The ACC, located in the village of Athens, aims to bring together diverse participants to discover, share and appreciate art and culture. “We regularly feature art exhibitions and cultural events such as music, comedy, films, readings, plays and virtual programs,” said Carol Pfister, CCA Treasurer. The ACC offers a wide variety of art classes for seniors, adults and children of all ages, indoors and outdoors. A favorite event is the ACC’s winter celebration, the Athens Victorian Walk, a popular village-wide event where businesses and residents open their doors to visit, meet neighbors and share in the holiday cheer. “The Masterwork grant will be very helpful to us,” said Pfister, “because the CCA relies solely on grants and donations, and offers programs and courses at minimal cost to participants. “

The Masterworks event was unique in its approach of organizing a fundraiser to support another nonprofit organization. “Given the pandemic, we’ve all had to think of new ways to be social, fundraising and support the organizations we love,” said Whitley. “The pandemic has caused many people to move to new areas, so fundraising needs to evolve accordingly. We are excited about the portable nature of this event. This is a model that we will seek to replicate in other places where Masterwork has roots in the New York, NJ and CT area. We hope that others involved in the organization could organize a similar event in their region.

As part of its mission to support the arts, Masterwork also awarded in 2021 a Premier Award in the amount of $ 10,000 to an independent artist and $ 2,000 in grants to arts organizations based in New York, NJ and CT. via its Community Arts Awards. Masterwork also offers free online dance lessons and a free “A Life in the Arts” series, which features professionals who have dedicated their lives to the arts.
